5.8 GHz Microwave Radio

The OptiQwave 8558 Microwave Protection Switch is designed to provide the confidence of radio redundancy for critical links. Placed between two OptiQwave 8180 Digital Microwave radios, it provides monitored, automatic hot-standby protection. In case of any failure in the working unit, it will switch over to the standby unit within 1.5 seconds.

The OptiQwave 8558 Microwave Protection Switch operates in 5.8 GHz ISM band with payload data capacity of up to 8XT1/E1 lines. Both fast Ethernet and RS232 craft interface port are provided for provisioning, diagnostics and network management. Through these ports of the Protection Switch unit, an operator can access both the working and standby OptiQwave 8180 units.

Extensive working status of on-line radio is monitored. Should a condition indicating certain failure happen in the working radio, the Protection Switch will simultaneously switch all the functions of microwave transmitter/receiver, payload data, console, fast Ethernet, modem, remote RS232, and alarm relay to the standby radio. With the Protection Switch, seamless microwave link without any interruption is maintained. It also allows the operators to have the flexibility of restoration at their own convenient time. Front panel LED indicators provide clear and complete alarm and status indications.
